About Fisherman Launching His Boat, Tarrafal, Santiago

Tarrafal is a fishing town at the northern tip of Santiago, the largest island of Cape Verde, known for its sheltered bay of golden sand and palm trees. Every morning fishermen push their small painted boats into the water and come back later with their catch for the market. The town's name also recalls a darker past: in 1936 Portugal's dictatorship opened a prison camp nearby for political prisoners from Portugal and its African colonies, and it is now a museum of resistance. In this photo a fisherman pushes a bright orange boat through the shallows below dark cliffs.

Puzzle tip: the orange boat and the clear water are easy to place; the dark rocks above take longer.
