About Nagoya Castle

Nagoya Castle was built from 1610 by Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first Tokugawa shogun, to guard the main road between Edo and Kyoto. Its roof is crowned with two golden shachihoko, mythical fish with the heads of tigers that were believed to protect buildings from fire. The castle burned in an air raid in 1945, and its main keep was rebuilt in concrete in 1959; the lord's palace beside it was carefully reconstructed in wood in 2018. Here the green-roofed keep rises among trees.

Puzzle tip: start with the green roofs and golden fish, then the white walls, and finish with the trees and the blue sky.
