About Rinpung Dzong and the Paro River at Dusk

Rinpung Dzong, the "Fortress on a Heap of Jewels", rises above the Paro River in western Bhutan. It was built in 1644 on the orders of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal and today houses both the district government and a community of monks. The way in from the river crosses a covered wooden cantilever bridge built in the traditional style. Every spring the dzong hosts the Paro Tsechu festival, when monks perform masked dances in the courtyard and a giant painted scroll is unrolled at dawn.

Puzzle tip: the bridge and the lit walls stand out in the evening light; the dark hills and sky come last.
