About Royal Mile and St Giles' Cathedral, Edinburgh

The Royal Mile is the chain of streets that runs down the spine of Edinburgh's Old Town, from the castle to the Palace of Holyroodhouse. It is roughly a Scots mile long, a little more than an English one. Halfway along stands St Giles' Cathedral, whose crown-shaped spire has been a landmark since the 15th century. In August the street fills with performers during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Puzzle tip: the crown spire of St Giles' is easy to find; the tall stone buildings on both sides frame the picture.
