About Sidi M'Cid Bridge and the Old Town, Constantine

Constantine stands on a rocky plateau almost surrounded by the deep gorge of the Rhumel River. In ancient times it was Cirta, the capital of the Numidian kings, and it was renamed after the Roman emperor Constantine the Great, who rebuilt it in the early fourth century. Its many bridges over the gorge have earned it the name City of Bridges. The Sidi M'Cid suspension bridge, opened in 1912, hangs about 175 metres above the river and was then the highest bridge in the world. In this photo the bridge crosses the gorge in front of the city's buildings and green slopes.

Puzzle tip: the white bridge and the buildings behind it are clear shapes; the rocky gorge and the trees come later.
