About Wat Mahathat at Sunset, Sukhothai

Wat Mahathat was the most important temple of old Sukhothai and stands at the very centre of the walled city. Its main chedi ends in a lotus-bud tower, a shape that was typical of Sukhothai architecture. Around it are about two hundred smaller chedis, and rows of columns and seated Buddha images remain from the halls that once stood here. Every November the park holds the Loy Krathong festival, when people float candles on the ponds. In this photo the old towers stand in silhouette against a glowing evening sky.

Puzzle tip: build the dark shapes of the ruins first, then sort the warm colours of the sunset sky.
