About Eroded Rock Formations in Murang'a County

Murang'a County lies in the green highlands of central Kenya, on the slopes below the Aberdare Range, and is known for its tea and coffee farms. It holds a special place in the traditions of the Kikuyu, Kenya's largest ethnic group: at Mukurwe wa Nyagathanga, the story goes, their ancestors Gikuyu and Mumbi founded the nation and its nine clans. In parts of the county, heavy rain has cut deep gullies into soft rock and soil, leaving steep walls, pillars and ridges in shades of cream and ochre. This photo shows such eroded formations under a line of trees.

Puzzle tip: start with the trees along the top, then work down the ridged walls of rock by their light and shadow.
