About Kolmanskop Ghost Town, Namibia

Kolmanskop was a rich diamond-mining town in the Namib Desert, founded after a diamond was found here in 1908. It had a hospital, a ballroom, a bowling alley and one of the first X-ray machines in Africa. When richer diamond fields were found further south, the town was abandoned in the 1950s, and the desert sand has been creeping into its houses ever since.

Puzzle tip: the doorway and the window frames are the clearest shapes; the sand drifts need patience.
