Japan Puzzles

Japan is an island nation of mountains, forests and some of the most modern cities in the world, where ancient temples, castles and gardens stand beside glass towers. Our Japan puzzles travel the whole country, from the lavender fields and snowy canals of Hokkaido to the castles of Honshu, the temples of Kyoto and Nara and the coral seas of Okinawa.

About Japan

Mount Fuji, 3,776 metres high, is Japan's highest mountain and a sacred symbol of the country; you can see it from the Chureito Pagoda, from Lake Kawaguchi, from the spring-fed village of Oshino Hakkai and even from the towers of Tokyo and Yokohama. Kyoto was the imperial capital for more than a thousand years: here you can piece together the Golden and Silver Pavilions, Kiyomizu-dera, the Yasaka Pagoda, the bamboo grove of Arashiyama, the geisha district of Gion and the torii tunnels of Fushimi Inari. In nearby Nara, the Great Buddha Hall of Todai-ji is one of the largest wooden buildings in the world.

Japan's castles include white Himeji, black Matsumoto, Osaka, Nagoya and Hirosaki among the cherry blossoms. The red torii of Itsukushima stands in the sea near Hiroshima, whose Atomic Bomb Dome is a memorial for peace, while the gilded shrines of Nikko, the Great Buddha of Kamakura, Lake Ashi in Hakone and Nachi Falls draw pilgrims and travellers. In the mountains, the thatched village of Shirakawa-go and the snow monkeys of Jigokudani are known all over the world.

In Tokyo you can put together Senso-ji, Meiji Jingu, the Imperial Palace, Tokyo Station, Tokyo Tower, the 634-metre Tokyo Skytree, the Rainbow Bridge and the Shibuya Crossing. Osaka adds the canal of Dotonbori and the old district of Shinsekai, and the port cities of Yokohama, Kobe, Hakodate and Fukuoka look out over the sea. Further north are Sapporo, Otaru and the Blue Pond of Biei, and in the south the ancient forests of Yakushima and the cliffs of Okinawa.
