About Europe

Many of Europe's most visited places are here: the Eiffel Tower and Notre-Dame in Paris, the Palace of Versailles, Mont-Saint-Michel, the Colosseum and the canals of Venice, the Acropolis of Athens, the Sagrada Família in Barcelona, Prague's Charles Bridge, the Main Market Square of Kraków, the Grand-Place of Brussels, the Parliament of Budapest reflected in the Danube and the coloured domes of Saint Basil's Cathedral in Moscow. There are also quieter corners, from the carved balconies of old Tbilisi to the gabled houses of Bruges, the walled hilltop city of Mdina in Malta, the fjords of Norway, the canals of Copenhagen, the waterfront of Stockholm and the northern lights of Iceland. Further east and south you can visit the medieval old towns of Tallinn, Riga and Vilnius, Trakai Island Castle, the Old Bridge of Mostar, the Bay of Kotor, Lake Ohrid and the three towers of San Marino.

Europe is home to the smallest country in the world, Vatican City, and to some of the oldest universities, from Bologna, founded in 1088, to Oxford, Salamanca and Prague. Its rivers have carried trade for thousands of years: the Danube alone flows through ten countries and past four capital cities, Vienna, Bratislava, Budapest and Belgrade.
